DONATE

Thank you for considering MED25 as the recipient of your donation. Our work is made possible by those willing to invest in our organization and our mission. 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to our work in Kenya, either to a general fund for the project or as specified by you below. We have other MED25 donors who direct their donations specifically to our administrative costs necessary for our organization to succeed, allowing us to put 100% of your donation toward our work in Kenya.

General Donation

Donations will be put towards the current needs of the Kenya Project.

If you would like your donation to go towards a specific aspect of our work, please choose from the following.

New Clinic Construction

All funds for the New Clinic Construction go toward the construction of our new health care facility. This includes purchasing the land, fencing the property, planting trees, creating a rain water harvesting system, and building the clinic, volunteer housing, eco-friendly toilets, placenta pit, and incinerator.

Support Our Staff

In order to meet the needs of the community, we have removed as many costs as possible for the patient. This allows us to serve those who need it most but typically cannot afford health care. In order to do this, we currently cover all staff expenses through donations we receive. This includes our clinical officer, nurse, pharmacy technician, lab technologists, social worker, and other staff members necessary for the successful operation of this clinic. Our goal is to create income generating businesses to cover the cost of staff wages, equipment and supplies necessary to do their jobs in the future. Our staff are the key to our success in Mbita. Your donation will help support their efforts.

Sponsor a Community Health Worker

Our Community Health Workers (CHWs) are our eyes and ears in the community. We currently employ one CHW from each of the ten surrounding communities—each woman is a well-trained CHW and respected member of their community. The CHWs visit community members in their homes and refer them to our health care facility if they need further treatment. Our CHWs also follow up with every patient that has been treated for malaria with a home health assessment. This has proven to be the best time to educate a patient on how to prevent malaria and other illnesses in the future. By sponsoring a CHW, you are not only providing a woman with a living wage, your donation also  impacts the lives of over 2,000 individuals in the community the CHW directly serves.

Staff Development

We believe continuing education is vital to providing up-to-date and evidence based practice medical care to our patients. Each staff member has access to an Education Fund to support them through continuing their education and improving the care we provide to our patients. Each staff member may write a proposal for education opportunities which would benefit them individually as well as the community we serve. For example, Ronald, one of our laboratory technicians, would like to take a course offered by AMREF on different techniques laboratory technicians use in accurately diagnosing different strands of malaria in a rural clinic setting. Help Ronald and others like him at the clinic receive the training necessary to continue providing quality care to this community.

Community Projects and Outreach

We have developed a strong bond with the community we serve through different outreach programs in the community. These outreach activities include but are not limited to: the Kick Disease Out of Mbita annual soccer tournament, free medical camps in surrounding communities, deworming and immunization programs through local schools, and school health education days, including Dental Health Camps, HIV/AIDS education day, and Malaria Prevention. Your support allows us to continue these important community health awareness events.

Uncompensated Care

While we strive to make health care affordable for all, we still have a number of patients who cannot afford treatment. We never deny a patient treatment simply because they cannot afford it. We have a designated fund for patients who cannot afford treatment. We have found that 85% of our patients who initially cannot afford treatment return within 30 days to pay part of or all of their remaining balance. Your donation can help bridge the financial gaps of patients’ ability to afford care.

Medical Equipment

Our mission is to provide the Mbita community with access to quality, culturally appropriate, and affordable health care. To ensure we provide quality care that is appropriate for this community, we only invest in medical equipment which would benefit those we serve. A high-power microscope, for example, is crucial to the accurate diagnosis for malaria. On the other hand, a CT scan for diagnosing cancer or a ventilator would not fit with the needs or desires of this community so we would choose not to invest in them. A donation to medical equipment will help scale up the efficiency, quality, and scope of services we provide to the Mbita community.

Income Generating Businesses

In order for our mission to have a long-lasting impact in this community, we will invest in social businesses which will eventually be able to cover the cost of operation. Social businesses will help us to no longer rely solely on donor contributions. You can invest in creating and sustaining these businesses individually so they can support the operational costs associated with running the clinic.
