Kisumu, Kenya

Starting in 2009, Med25 began partnering with Young Generation Center (YGC), an orphanage located in Manyatta, the largest slum in Kisumu, Kenya. Hit hard by the AIDS epidemic, orphans arrive daily at YGC to receive an education, food, and shelter. YGC is supported by other nonprofit organizations, and with their help have established income generating businesses to support the growing needs of orphans. Med25 was invited into this partnership to assist with health concerns including health education in the YGC school, creating orphan health records for every child in YGC, young women capacity building and empowerment, operating a pharmacy within the YGC compound, and working on community outreach programs, including HIV/AIDS home health visits, health education programming for mothers and children, and age appropriate health education in local schools.
